Our Story.
2012
MSF was set up by Shaun Stacey in 2012 as a highways contractor specialising in street lighting and traffic signs. Employing a handful of staff, we began trading from a single portacabin in our yard in Podington, Northamptonshire. With limited space, most of the paperwork was kept in the back of Shaun’s car for the first six months.
2015
In 2015, James Hambrook joined the business, turnover hit £5m and we employed 20 staff.
2016
In 2016, we won an £800k contract with Connect Plus Services to replace the streetlights on the iconic QEII Bridge, one of the most critical items of infrastructure on the National Highways network. It was this scheme that really put us on the map as the go-to company for street lighting.
2018
In 2018, the portacabins retired and we moved our team into a shiny new purpose-built office. By 2018, our Turnover had grown to £10m.
In the same year, Mark Atkinson joined the business and we opened our Northern region office in Newton Aycliffe, which saw our turnover treble over the next three years. Aidan Byrne joined the business to head up our Commercial department.
In 2018 we registered as an Independent Connections Provider, which allowed us to work on all LV live networks, creating a one-stop shop for all single and three phase street furniture.
2019
In 2019, we won the contract to supply all the signage on the £1.5bn A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme.
2020
In 2020, Paul Harrison joined the business to head up our new technology division and controlled growth continued.
We restructured again into three regions, and set up an additional depot in Dartford to cover the South. Shaun Stacey made several promotions naming his board of Directors to further support the growth of the business.
June 2021
In 2021, we won the contract to deliver the street lighting, signage and technology packages for the East Leeds Orbital Route on behalf of Balfour Beatty. Worth £4m this has been our largest single contract win to date and contributed to a £30m turnover by the end of the year.
September 2021
In September 2021 we won a place on National Highways’ Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) to supply street lighting in areas 3, 4, 6 & 8 and 14, and technology assets in areas 6 & 8, 7, 10 and 14, along with a place on National Highways’ Smart Motorway Alliance.
