A63 Castle Street Improvements & Murdoch’s Connection

MSF delivered the landmark lighting and electrical package for the A63 Murdoch’s Connection footbridge in Hull, an iconic structure linking the city centre with the waterfront.

Working in a complex marine and highway environment, MSF operated both day and night, on site and at the bridge manufacturer’s facility, requiring close collaboration with the principal contractor, designer, fabricator and Distribution Network Operator.

To minimise time on site, the MSF team installed the cabling on the bridge off-site and then installed 44 illuminated bollards, 14 uplighters, more than 200 integrated bridge lights using inverted scissor lifts, and RGB LED tape across the structure.

The team undertook the electrical design, advised on the lighting design, and fitted out two plant rooms with containment, distribution boards and a DMX control system developed in partnership with the principal designer and manufacturer.

Zero Defects

Over 10,000 metres of power and data cabling and more than 20 LED lighting columns, with associated ducting and trenching on the approaches, were installed using vacuum excavation on night closures to maximise safety.

MSF also carried out on-site testing and commissioning, handing over the scheme on time with zero electrical defects, helping to make Murdoch’s Connection a truly iconic piece of infrastructure for Hull.
