A63 Castle Street Improvements & Murdoch’s Connection

This was a £355m project to improve the flow of traffic in Hull between the city centre in the north, and the retail and dock areas to the south.
The project involved the creation of a new junction, widening existing sections of the A63 between Princes Dock Street and Market Place, and also the construction of a new footbridge, ‘Murdoch’s Connection’ linking Hull’s city centre with the waterfront.
MSF won the contract to deliver all the street lighting, traffic signage, cabling, ducting and signal infrastructure on the project, along with the iconic task and architectural lighting on the footbridge.

Decorative Lighting

Named after Hull’s first female GP, Murdoch’s Connection is a 60m long arched structure featuring a dramatic curved canopy which is lit using a Digital Multiplex RGB colour changing system which allows the council to change the colours of the various bridge elements to mark special occasions or key events in the calendar.
